Awesome video content is only truly awesome if you optimize it so you increase the chances of it being seen and shared. It’s like buying an amazing designer outfit that makes you look incredible, but you never leave the house to show it off.
Tip #1 – The Tags. The keywords you need to fill out for every single video you post. They are mucho important.
People will generally remember to put in what industry they are in and the topic they covered in the video. But a very important item many miss? Are you giving yourself credit in the tags. ALWAYS make sure your channel name, as it appears in your channel URL appears in your tags. We realize, with the integration of Google + that this has changed of late, but check how you originally set it and ensure that is how you are integrating your name into your tags.
The idea here is to have the referred content be attributed to you.
Tip #2 – Put in the tags what someone would actually search for in Google or YouTube. You couldn’t quite decide on the exact wording of your headline because there were different ways of wording it. Well take those different word combinations and feature THOSE in the tags.
Tip # 3 – The importance of your description box. Don’t put a two sentence description of just a link back to your site. You have at least 1000 words of space to work with. You should use as much of that description area as possible. Remember, crawlers can’t (yet) disseminate text spoken through a video, but they can crawl through the text in your description area.
Tip # 4 – This is the hardest thing for many to do. Choose a concise headline. Think of it this way. You’re standing on street and you see someone on the other side. They asked you what your blog was about, and you can’t get across because of traffic. So you’re shouting it across the street. You’ll be as minimal as possible. Remember, this is the way people think when they’re typing search phrases into Google or YouTube as well. And be sure your headline is directly accurate with the body of your content. It’s very annoying when a good headline draws people in, but the content doesn’t deliver the goods on what the visitor is really interested in.
Tip # 5 – Make it easy for Google to truly know what your video is about by providing a transcript. There’s a spot to upload it at the back end of each video. Here’s a link to instructions here.
Tip # 6 – The thumbnail. We are a visual world. How many times have you seen a beautiful smile on a thumbnail for a story and thought, I wouldn’t mind spending the next few minutes of my life looking at that smile as I read the article. Or a funny thumbnail that brings a chuckle. But don’t be misleading. Having a person in a bikini doesn’t have anything to do with tips on search optimizing. However adding text to your thumbnail that enhances your headline is an excellent idea.
